Functional Bodywork with James Earls  (Side-lying and Kneeling)  is a progressive course which blends functional movement principles with hands-on manipulation of the soft tissue to give you completely new and exciting assessments and treatment strategies for your clients. Using Functional Bodywork allows the practitioner to work with motor control, joint and soft-tissue problems all with the same technique – the client is simultaneously assessed, treated and re-educated with pain-free interventions.

In this re-formatted workshop, we teach how to work the major joints and tissues in side-lying and 4-point kneeling as these are perfect positions to access deep tissues comfortably while still allowing your client to move.

The combination of deep, intelligent touch coupled with the client’s movement creates a powerful therapeutic tool that empowers and educates the client on their own body (standing is taught in another workshop).

You will learn how to position your client safely and how to cue their movement to create predictable reactions through their system

What is Functional Bodywork?

Functional Bodywork, (formerly Active Fascia Release/AFR) has been developed by James Earls, blending his understanding of myofascial and functional movement principles with hands-on manipulation of the soft tissue to create a variety of therapeutic effects.

James studied functional movement principles with Gary Gray and David Tiberio of the Gray Institute. We teach true functional anatomy grounded in evidence and experience.

Born to Move aims always to give you an immediate and effective treatment tool.

Functional Bodywork combines elements of motor control theory with a neuro-myo-fascial approach to identify, treat and finally re-educate the client’s movement patterns. Blending guided movement with various soft tissue engagement protocols creates a method that addresses the body as a whole and acknowledges the roles of the body’s various tissues and their interrelationships.

In this particular Functional Bodywork course you will

  • Explore how to work the major joints and tissues in side-lying and 4-point kneeling as these are perfect positions to access deep tissues comfortably while still allowing your client to move. (Standing Functional Bodywork is covered in another course).
  • Learn how to position your client safely, efficiently and how to cue their movement to create predictable reactions through their system.
  • Learn many principles for effective soft tissue manipulation
  • Learn how the body moves as a system – we know it’s all connected, but in this course you will learn what that really means.
