Recognising Red Flags for the Massage Therapist
Online via Zoom
Recognising Red Flags for the Massage Therapist is a practical, evidence-informed course designed to help therapists navigate the uncertainties around Red Flags and contraindications. It explains the difference between the two—and why that distinction matters. The latest guidelines in musculoskeletal care are presented and made relevant to Massage, Sports, and Soft Tissue Therapy.
Some Red Flags can hide serious underlying conditions. Recognising these signs—and knowing when and where to refer—is a vital skill for therapists working with pain or injury. Yet the process isn’t always straightforward. Many clients present with at least one possible red flag. On its own, this may not seem significant. But how can we be confident in deciding what requires referral?
Timely referrals can be life-changing. Unnecessary ones, however, may lead to confusion or distress. Different scopes of practice add further complexity, often resulting in inconsistent or incomplete assessments. In these gaps, critical warning signs can be missed.
To address this, the ST School created a focused 2-hour online course. You’ll learn how to interpret current evidence and apply it appropriately within your role—particularly if you practise Massage, Sports, or Soft Tissue Therapy.
Interactive case scenarios help bring the material to life. You’ll explore common clinical presentations and practise decision-making in a safe learning environment. Templates and examples of referral letters are also provided, giving you tools to meet best-practice standards.
Sometimes, the best thing we can offer is recognising when someone needs a different kind of help. Knowing when to refer isn’t just good practice—it can prevent harm and protect lives.
Be the therapist who sees the signs. Be the one who refers—at the right time.
