A Modern Manual Therapy Approach to Lower Limb Injuries and Lower Back Pain
A Modern Manual Therapy Approach to Lower Limb Injuries and Lower Back Pain is a course entirely dedicated to a modern, evidence-based use Muscle Energy, Positional Release and Soft Tissue Release Techniques within the treatment of common Lower Limb Injuries and some of the Lower Back Pain clients come to us for.
The Course format is hybrid, which means there are two online sessions and one full in in-person weekend in Belfast. The online sessions are spread before and after the In-Person weekend.
Online Session 1 – 4th September (8 pm to 9.30 pm)
In Person Weekend in Belfast – 4th and 5th October (9.30 till 5 pm on Saturday | 9 am till 4.30 pm on Sunday)
Online Session 2 – 6th November (8 pm to 9.30 pm)
The online sessions will cover:
➡️ The underpinning theoretical knowledge of the mechanisms behind the techniques
➡️ How to clinically reason the use of such techniques under an evidence based framework
➡️ Mentoring/Consolidating session post course aimed at answering any questions and further contextualised acquired knowledge.
The In-Person weekend covers:
The practical application of different Manual Therapy Techniques – Muscle Energy (MET), Positional Release (PRT) and Soft Tissue Release Techniques (STR)
➡️ Learn how to apply MET. We will cover Post Isometric Relaxation (PIR) and Reciprocal Inhibition (RI) as well as Eccentric MET (EMET).
➡️ Learn how to apply PRT. We will cover Strain Counter Strain (SCS) and Functional Techniques as well as a couple of other approaches which can be considered Positional Released but they are not officially described as.
➡️ Learn how to apply STR. We will cover both Active and Passive
The reasoning and application of the techniques for most common Lower Limb Injuries and some of the Lower Back Pain presentations including:
➡️ Plantar Fasciopathy and Achilles, Gluteal and Proximal Hamstrings Tendinopathy
➡️ Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome Pain
➡️ Ilio Tibial Band Syndrome Pain
➡️ Knee Pain and Hip Pain including OA and to help post joint replacement
➡️ Lower Back Pain and Radicular Pain
We will focus on
➡️ Safe, efficient and comfortable application of the techniques
➡️ Body mechanics of the practitioner to maximise easiness of application
➡️ Different client positioning to ensure their comfort and to negotiate any possible mobility issues
➡️ Different variations of the techniques from avariety of approaches
By the end of the whole course you will be able to:
➡️ Understand and apply to your clinical reasoning the most current evidence on mechanisms behind METs, PRTs and STRs and Touch in general
➡️ Understand safety of application
➡️ Be confident in using METs, PRTs and STRs with efficiency and comfort for you and the client.
➡️ Position yourself and the client in different ways to cater for people mobility issues including pregnancy.
➡️ Choose between variations of the techniques from different hands on approaches.
➡️ Clinically reason these techniques for different lower limb injuries and some of the Lower Back Pain presentations including
