Scar Care Workshop
Hybrid Training Programme
Part 1 – Online
Dates TBC | 2.5 hours (7.30–9.30 pm)
Part 2 – In person
Saturday 4th July (9.30 am – 5.00 pm)
Course Overview
The Scar Care Workshop explores how scars form, heal, and sometimes become painful or restrictive.
Wound healing is a finely balanced process of tissue breakdown and repair. When this balance is disrupted, scars may affect movement, comfort, and quality of life. Understanding this process supports safer and more effective treatment decisions.
This course offers a safe, evidence-informed, person-centred approach to scar care. It is grounded in clinically relevant research on fascial behaviour during healing and contemporary scar management. Common myths and misconceptions are challenged to support clearer clinical reasoning and safer practice.
Practical Scar Management Skills
This is a highly practical Scar Care Workshop. Participants will work directly with real scars in a supported learning environment.
- Massage and myofascial techniques to support scar mobility
- Cupping approaches to address restriction and sensitivity
- Silicone sheeting for scar support
- Rigid and kinesiology taping applications
Clear emphasis is placed on timing, with guidance on when different approaches are appropriate across the phases of wound healing.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Scar Care Workshop, practitioners will be able to:
- Understand normal wound healing and tissue adaptation
- Assess scar quality, mobility, sensitivity, and restriction
- Identify why, when, and how hands-on techniques may be appropriate
- Confidently apply massage and hands-on techniques to scars
- Integrate cupping, silicone sheeting, and taping strategies safely
- Work ethically, within scope of practice, and with clinical confidence
