Off The Map is a webinar for massage and manual therapists where we explore emerging evidence showing that people with long-standing shoulder pain, including frozen shoulder, have changes in brain activity and sensory–motor processing and the influence these may have in the persistence of pain and movement dysfunction.
Anna Maria will present evidence from imaging, motor cortex mapping, and embodied cognition research that shows how shoulder pain within its biopsychosocial complexity can also be understood as a dynamic interaction between cortical representation, sensory input, motor output, and emotional-cognitive modulation.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Have an overview of the current emerging evidence that links changes in brain processing to shoulder pain
- Understand how such changes affect pain, perception, sense of self and motor control
- Have an overview of the available tests for assessing motor imagery, mental rehearsal of shoulder movement and changes in body representation
- Understand how the evidence may apply to real life case presentations
