Hands On Hub & STA Conference
The inaugural ‘Hands On Hub & STA Conference’ will be taking place in Exmouth on Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st of September.
With two days (half day on the Sunday) of fantastic speakers, presentations & practical workshops, the conference has been designed to provide a meaningful, therapist-centred learning experience for all practitioners, whether you are a Sports Therapist, Osteopath, Massage Therapist, Physiotherapist, Soft Tissue Therapist, Movement Therapist… in fact anyone who works with people.
The Future Of Healthcare Education
This event promises to offer so much more than just a conference. It is a powerful expression of collaboration where the STA South West Regional programme meets the broader Hands-On Hub agenda, blending professional CPD with a wider invitation to connect across disciplines and practice boundaries.

Dr Claire Minshull
Rehab & Conditioning Specialist. Founder of Get Back To Sport
Claire Minshull is one of the most highly respected and research active rehabilitation & conditioning specialists in the UK. She has worked in the field of sports medicine and health for over 20 years as a Senior Lecturer, Researcher, Consultant and as a Practitioner. She has designed, led and managed major clinical and nonclinical research trials, supervised several PhD students, and has published over 30 research papers in leading peer-reviewed sports medicine journals. She founded her company ‘Get Back To Sport’ to enable the transference of research findings into enhancing clinical practice, and has developed the teaching portfolio that now has an international reach.

Serena Simmons
Chartered Psychologist, Founder of The Psychology School

Michelle Lyons
Women's Health Physiotherapist. Founder of Celebrate Muliebrity
Michelle Lyons is a Women’s Health Physiotherapist with over 30 years of experience. Her toolbox has expanded over the years to include postgraduate qualifications in health coaching and wellness, yoga, pilates and mindfulness as a therapeutic intervention. As founder of Celebrate Muliebrity, Michelle is passionate about women’s health, with a special interest in menopause and oncology rehab issues. She teaches on these topics, on courses and conferences nationally, internationally and online, and is fervent about spreading the word about pelvic health.

James Earls
Writer, Lecturer & Bodyworker. Born to Move
James Earls is a writer, lecturer and bodyworker who in recent years has concentrated on blending movement with manual therapy to create a new functional approach to bodywork, which he teaches as co-founder of the training company ‘Born to Move’. As a highly respected author, his publications include ‘Born to Walk’, ‘Understanding the Human Foot’, and ‘Functional Anatomy of Movement’, a unique and comprehensive approach to functional anatomy countering the oversimplified & static current teaching of musculoskeletal anatomy.

Siobhan O'Donovan
'The Booby Physio' & founder of PostureFitting
Founder of PostureFitting, Siobhán O’Donovan, aka ‘The Booby Physio’, is a chartered physiotherapist specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, particularly in sport and exercise injury prevention and management. After having had what she now knows was not the experience of most women with an expert bra-fitting, Siobhán discovered first hand the immediate and lasting effect it had on her posture and self-confidence. She immediately identified this as an opportunity to use an optimally fitted bra to enhance postural improvements for her patients. This epiphany led to the evolution of PostureFitting and subsequently the Gals against Gravity workshop. By providing her posture & breast weight management system, Siobhán saw the life-changing moments her patients experienced during their PostureFitting consultation and, importantly, the long term benefits it brought to their general health and wellbeing.

Jinty Sheerin & Lou Hockings-Thompson
Jinty Sheerin & Lou Hockings-Thompson are the hosts of Womenkind Collective Spill The Tea Podcast, where no topic is off-limits, and every conversation is served with honesty, humour, and heart. From health and hormones to family, relationships, equity, and the realities of menopause, the podcast brings a vibrant, weekly mix of education, laughter, and real talk, tackling the topics that matter—especially the ones society often shies away from. Though Menopause is not the sole focus of the podcast, it is a much sought conversation, and with the help of expert guests, Jinty & Lou provide evidence-based facts through real-life experience. They are also the founders of Exmouth’s first Menopause Café, giving women a space to connect, and launched the #WheresMyClinic campaign, fighting for an NHS Menopause Clinic in Devon.

Tristen Attenborough
Movement & Massage Therapist at Move Massage Pro
Tristen Attenborough qualifed as a sports massage therapist in 2014. Deeply unsatisfied with his training, its many dubious claims & absence of evidence, he attended many weekend courses from some of the most renowned & progressive educators in physiotherapy, and completed a Masters Degree in Pain Management in 2020. Passionate about all things movement and massage, Tris is an outspoken advocate of evidence-based practice, better education, & encouraging confidence as therapists. Having spoken at Therapy Expo several times, guesting on podcasts, providing talks for conferences & education programs, Tris is always keen to get on stage and share some thought-provoking ideas. Tris runs a one-man clinic in Northamptonshire and likes to pick up heavy stuff.

Rebecca Warburton
Soft Tissue Therapist, Tutor and Pilates instructor
Rebecca Warburton is a practising Soft Tissue Therapist, tutor and Pilates instructor. Practicing as a soft tissue therapist, Becca’s clinical focus shifted to pregnancy care in 2020 when as a new expecting mother she experienced first hand, the lack of quality support complementing standard NHS care and the excessive medicalisation surrounding birth. Now a mother of 3, Becca continues to train and specialise in the care of women from conception, through pregnancy and motherhood in both massage and exercise arenas. She champions access to knowledge and up to date research so that mothers can make a true informed choice about the care they want to receive.

Matt Phillips
Running Injury Specialist, Host of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast
Matt Phillips is a Running Injury & Performance Specialist. He created his website Runchatlive.com to help runners & therapists evolve from outdated ideas & embrace a more evidence-informed approach to running injury prevention & management. His popular CPD Course ‘Gait Analysis For Runners: A Modern Approach’ is run in association with The ST School. A popular speaker at national & international conferences, Matt has written for numerous websites & magazines, and spent time in Nairobi helping set up one of the first Gait Analysis stores in Kenya. He is well known as host of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast and Runchatlive Podcast.

JoJo Hogan
Founder of Slow Postpartum Movement
Jojo Hogan is a postpartum doula, maternal massage therapist, and founder of The Slow Postpartum Movement. With over 20 years of experience supporting families through the tender transition into parenthood, Jojo is passionate about reclaiming postpartum as a time of deep healing, rest, and transformation. Drawing on traditional care practices, bodywork, and the principles of slow living, she works to educate both parents and professionals on how to create more nourishing and supportive postpartum experiences — for the benefit of mothers, babies, and entire families.

Andy Hosgood

Andy Hosgood is a healthcare professional with 23 years of frontline and business experience, a no-nonsense coach, consultant, and fixer for the healthcare industry. He works with high-performing but unfulfilled professionals who are tired of just getting by. As an ‘Unlocking Human Potential Coach’, Andy helps people reconnect with their confidence, clarity, and ambition so they can grow personally, lead authentically, and create impact that actually feels aligned. Emma Edwards
Parkinson’s Specialist Nurse, Livewell Southwest
Emma has worked in the mental health arena since 1993 and qualified as a mental health nurse in 1997. She has worked on a range of psychiatric intensive care units and dementia care wards in Cornwall and Cheltenham as a staff nurse and then a charge nurse. She then worked for a few years running a Nursing Home in Bude, before taking up a post as community Parkinson’s Specialist Nurse in 2010.
Emma has enjoyed teaching on the Southwest Parkinson’s degree module, Advanced practitioner modules, various conferences and local teaching for her employers. In 2019, she took up a post in Plymouth as a Community Parkinson’s nurse and redesigned the service to incorporate changes brought about by the pandemic and the introduction of Home based using digital technology. She has been an independent prescriber since 2015.
In 2022, following the death of a patient to suicide, Emma took a secondment to the Suicide prevention department to find out more about this subject and how it relates to Parkinson’s. She returned to her Parkinson’s nurse role in 2024 and has taught on the subject to Parkinson’s teams across the country. She is currently involved in work concentrating on improving mental health pathways in Neurology.

Sarah Jones
Soft Tissue Therapist and Tutor at The ST School
Sarah Jones qualified as a Soft Tissue Therapist at The ST SChool in 2017, following a successful 20 years as a Veterinary Nurse. With a background as a gymnast, gymnastics coach, and mum of two young athletes, Sarah already had a strong foundation in movement quality and injury management, and pursued specialized training in adolescent injury care. Sarah is also dedicated to improving training standards in Pregnancy Massage & enhancing women’s access to care for Menopause. She established a Menopause Café to provide access to evidence-based knowledge, empowering women with the right information, so they have agency to make informed choices and take control of their care. Sarah has also played a key role in creating content for the fully up-to-date & comprehensive ST School course ‘Massage in Pregnancy’, which she now is the lead tutor of.

Imi Testa
Soft Tissue Therapist and Tutor at The ST School
With a career spanning 26 years, Imi Testa’s approach to hands on client care has evolved to seamlessly blend psychologically informed touch with mindful movement-based practices. Her journey began with Holistic Massage, where she developed the core values of person-centered, holistic care — a philosophy still at the essence of her clinical and teaching approaches. Despite being already highly trained and with expertise on her own, Imi decided to study with The ST School to upgrade her qualification to Level 5 Diploma in Soft Tissue Therapy, and she is now a tutor & integral part of content creation for ST School courses. Over her long career, Imi has enriched her practice by learning a broad spectrum of modalities and philosophies, including Evidence Based Hypnotherapy, Feldenkrais Method, Functional Neurology.

Oliver Sturdy
Anthropology Graduate, University of Kent
Oliver Sturdy is an anthropology graduate from the University of Kent with a research focus on medical anthropology, specifically the integration of psychedelic-assisted therapies within modern mental health care. His dissertation research was grounded in the concept of medical pluralism—the understanding that health and healing are not limited to a single medical system within any given society. Individuals often draw on multiple forms of care—such as biomedical, complementary, Indigenous healing, and folk practices—to address physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
During his time at Kent, Oliver served on the executive team of the UKC Psychedelics Society, where he was responsible for developing and leading the society’s seminar programme. He curated content, invited academic speakers from around the world, and helped create an open, multidisciplinary space for exploring diverse perspectives on psychedelic-assisted therapies.

Gary Benson
Founding Member of The Sports Therapy Association
Gary Benson has been representing Soft Tissue Therapists and Sport Therapists for 18 years, in varied roles at the GCMT (General Council for Massage Therapists) 2007-2009 the SRTC (Sports and Remedial Therapies Council) 2009-2010 As a Profession Specific Board Advisor to the CNHC (Complementary Natura Healthcare Council 2010-2013) and as an advisor to other membership bodies until 2013. He founded the Sports Therapy Association to raise the standard of membership support and representation in early 2014, Incorporating as a not-for-profit Association in February 2015. As an educator working in roles in Higher Education, Further Education and the Private sector has experience in qualification design, delivery and assessment protocols.

Anna Maria Mazzieri
Soft Tissue Therapist, Director of The ST School
Anna Maria is a soft tissue therapist, practising since 2002. She lead The ST School, a well-regarded provider of the Soft Tissue Therapy Diploma and professional development courses. Advocate for high-quality vocational education.
As a practitioner and educator, Anna Maria promotes evidence-based practice in massage and manual therapy and has co-authored several publications on it and on the mechanisms behind manual therapy. She is currently collaborating with researchers on a forthcoming review and theory paper on trauma, chronic pain, and massage. And expanding on that topic through her PhD which explores embodiment, chronic pain, touch and virtual reality. Anna Maria is also part of the USA NIH-funded ForceNET and NeuronS_MATTR groups, which brings together researchers, clinicians and scientists to progress the understanding of Massage and Manualt therapy mechanisms. She is well known for her teaching style which is expressive, engaging and true expression of her ADHD personality
