Rebecca Warburton

Soft Tissue Therapist, Tutor and Pilates instructor

Rebecca Warburton is a practising Soft Tissue Therapist, tutor and Pilates instructor. Practicing as a soft tissue therapist, Becca’s clinical focus shifted to pregnancy care in 2020 when as a new expecting mother she experienced first hand, the lack of quality support complementing standard NHS care and the excessive medicalisation surrounding birth. Now a mother of 3, Becca continues to train and specialise in the care of women from conception, through pregnancy and motherhood in both massage and exercise arenas. She champions access to knowledge and up to date research so that mothers can make a true informed choice about the care they want to receive.

“Matrescence: Reconceptualising Peripartum care with Massage Therapy”

Sunday Sep 21st: Breakout Room
10:30 – 11:10

Matrescence, the often-overlooked transition into motherhood, parallels adolescence as a profound biopsychosocial transformation. Despite its far-reaching implications for maternal identity, physical health, and emotional wellbeing, peripartum care models frequently prioritise pathology over the holistic needs of the birthing individual.

In this presentation Becca explores massage therapy as a valuable, evidence informed approach to support the person through matrescence. She will delve into practical strategies to be used for stress reduction and autonomic regulation, musculoskeletal support and embodied awareness to support maternal wellbeing, resilience and agency.

Three key principles you’ll take away:
✨ Understanding the changes in pregnancy which are important for us therapists to ensure we are safe and effective.
🍲 Different Massage for different outcomes.
💛 Pilates principles in pregnancy.
