Tristen Attenborough
Movement & Massage Therapist at Move Massage Pro
Tristen Attenborough qualifed as a sports massage therapist in 2014. Deeply unsatisfied with his training, its many dubious claims & absence of evidence, he attended many weekend courses from some of the most renowned & progressive educators in physiotherapy, and completed a Masters Degree in Pain Management in 2020. Passionate about all things movement and massage, Tris is an outspoken advocate of evidence-based practice, better education, & encouraging confidence as therapists. Having spoken at Therapy Expo several times, guesting on podcasts, providing talks for conferences & education programs, Tris is always keen to get on stage and share some thought-provoking ideas. Tris runs a one-man clinic in Northamptonshire and likes to pick up heavy stuff.
Metacognition, Memory, Missing Data & the Inevitable Self-Delusion
Saturday Sep 20th: Main Theatre
13:40 – 14:20
Our practise as therapists requires us to make careful judgements and decisions. Decades of research on perception, memory, cognitive biases, noise and decision-making can give us important insights into understanding how we do this and highlight the kinds of errors we are prone to making. We are, in fact, destined to become self-delusional just because we are human.
This fun and thought-provoking talk looks at metacognition – thinking about thinking, and applies some essential critical thinking into how we navigate the clinical encounter, how we think about clients, ourselves and our industry. With a few simple principles, we can improve our objectivity and think more cleanly about a problem.
Three key principles you’ll take away:
✨ Understand the kinds of errors we are prone to making when making clinical judgements & decisions.
🍲 How to apply critical thinking.
💛 How to improve our objectivity & ultimiately our clinical practice.
